A.G. Allen,

June 11, 2010 — January 1, 2001

Mr. A. G. Allen, Jr., 82, of Piedmont, passed away Friday, June 11th at his home surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 19th, at Nobles Funeral Chapel with the Rev. George Malis officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Carlos.

A. G. was born in Navasota on September 8, 1927 to Adrian Garvin Allen, Sr. and Ellie Davis and led a full and happy life. After a brief stint in the U.S. Navy, he worked hard all of his life as a pipefitter and raising cattle. Allen was a staunch Democrat and served his party as the Grimes County Democratic Chairman from 2000 - 2006. He was a lifelong Master Mason and was a member of Orphan's Friend Lodge #17, Planters Lodge #147, and the Navasota Eastern Star and was guided to do everything to the best of his ability by his beloved Masonic teachings. A. G. was raised as a Master Mason on November 3, 1954, in Park Place Lodge #1172 in Houston. He served as Worshipful Master of Orphan's Friend Lodge in 1960, 1997, and 2000. In 1987, A. G. served as the District Deputy Grand Master and received his 50 year service award in 2004. He was also instrumental in the relocating of Orphan's Friend Lodge to its current location on Highway 30 in Carlos. A. G. was a member of the Carlos Missionary Baptist Church as well.

He was a dedicated family man, figuring prominently in the lives of his three children and three grandchildren and was very proud of his new great-grandson, Kirby Dane Caldwell. A. G. was blessed with the love and respect of many, many friends, and he entertained all of us with his ability to tell a story well, full of his memories of great detail. To say he loved fishing and hunting with his son Garvin and grandson Clay would be an understatement. He and Clay spent hours tending to his pecan orchard. A. G. and his wife Rose could be found on most Saturday nights two-stepping and waltzing at the Sons of Hermann Hall. He will always be remembered for his wonderful smile and cheerful greetings.

A. G. was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lucille Allen; second wife, Louise Allen; and sister, Maurine Morris.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Rice Allen; daughters, Gail & Suzette Allen, both of Piedmont; son, Garvin Allen of Iowa, LA; grandchildren, Adrienne Cole, Katy Allen Caldwell, and Clayton G. Allen; great-nieces, Lori George and Sherri Ferguson; and great-grandson, Kirby Dane Caldwell.
